Article The Effects of Internatıonalızatıon of Productıon on the Turkısh Manufacturıng Industry: An Applıed Study on Foreıgn-Invested Manufacturer-Exporters(2018) Ergüven, EmreThis study investigates the effects of the transnational corporations’ organization of the production all over the world on the Turkish manufacturing industry (MI) and determines how the Turkish MI is articulated to this global organization. To this aim, it analysed foreign-invested manufacturers in the top-1000 exporters list of the Turkish Exporters Assembly. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the senior officials of the fifteen out of 101 firms who accepted their titles being revealed. Consequently, internationalization of production reinforced foreigndependent structure of the Turkish MI; and Turkey, an intermediate zone between advanced Western countries and cheap-labour Asian countries, seems as backyard of Europe: R&D units are few, imported inputs are high, value-added is low, there is specialization in the particular stages of the medium-low and medium-high technology production, relatively qualified and cheap intermediate staff is abundant, the highest part of exports is made to Europe, the MI is part of the global production and supply networks. And more importantly, this study shows that it is no more possible for Turkish MI to compete on the basis of cheap labour; and the contradictory policies to overcome this situation are far from increasing the competitive power of the Turkish MI.Book Part Efficacy of Organizational Learning and Social Capital in Online Communities of Practice: Dualities and Intersections(IGI Global, 2017) Gürsoy S.; Yücelen M.This chapter deals with the evolution of communities of practice by considering two key components which facilitate knowledge sharing: Organizational Learning and Social Capital. Dualities and intersections between the building blocks of these two components are investigated by discussing organizational learning in its explorative and exploitative forms, while considering social capital in its bridging and bonding forms. As a critical contemporary step of evolution, information and communication technologies are also elaborated in order to examine the impact of constant and instant tools on these facilitators of knowledge sharing. The study aims to derive proxies among these components of organizational learning and social capital in order to design an integrated framework that reflects the nature of online communities of practice. © 2018, IGI Global. Evidence from Emerging and Advanced Economies During Pre- and Post-Global Financial Crisis(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2019) Kuzucu, Narman; Kuzucu, SerpilWe examine the determinants of non-performing loans (NPLs) in emerging countries compared to advanced countries during pre- and post-global financial crisis using dynamic panel estimation techniques. We analyze the effects of banking sector-specific factors and macroeconomic factors on NPLs utilizing a panel data set of emerging and advanced countries. Our results suggest that real GDP growth is the main determinant that affects the NPL ratio, and NPLs exhibit high persistence in emerging and advanced economies both for the pre- and post-crisis periods. We find that exchange rate and foreign direct investments (FDI) become statistically significant for emerging countries after the crisis period.
