Book Part Aging in Turkey(Faculty of Economics Osijek, 2020) Kilic, Burak; Kilic, ZaferThis study covers the services offered to the elderly, individuals who work in this field, statistical data on aging in Turkey, and similar issues. The data in this study was collected from the literature review and from written sources. In the literature, the concept of age is divided into two: biological and chronological. Although chronological age is the same in all humans, biological age varies according to individuals. Chronological age is the number of years a person has been alive. Biological age is the representation of the biological step as a unit of time. Aging is the state where individuals gradually lose their physical and psychological power. The increasingly elderly population has also caused the academic environment to focus on the field of older people. Moreover, the increasing elderly population has accelerated the process of developing national policies and plans in countries and the process of producing services in line with the developed plans and policies. According to the aging data of the United Nations, there is an increase in the number and proportion of elderly individuals in the world. As a result, in this case, Turkey does not differ, so the elderly population is increasing with each passing day.Book Part Collecting Music as Information Management(Routledge, 2022) Sesigur, OnurBook Part Combinatory Play and Infinite Replay Underdefined Causality in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime Series and Games(Stockholm Univ Press, 2021) Bedir, Selen CalikBook Part Consolidating and Contesting Authoritarian Neoliberalism in Turkey: Towards a Framework(Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) Borsuk, Imren; Dinc, Pinar; Kavak, Sinem; Sayan, PinarDuring the early years of the ruling Adalet ve Kalkinma Partisi (Justice and Development Party, AKP), Turkey was seen as a burgeoning democratic power propped up by economic prosperity in line with the reforms for European Union (EU) accession and International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditionality. However, 20 years later, it is considered an emblematic case of democratic backsliding in line with rising poverty and inequalities that have been amplified as a result of sweeping neoliberal reforms and authoritarian consolidation in the country. The recent literature has identified these concomitant and complementary modes of authoritarian governance and neoliberal policies in Turkey as 'authoritarian neoliberalism'. In this chapter, we discuss the dynamics of consolidation of authoritarian neoliberalism in Turkey as well as the acts of contention against it. Building mainly on the eight case studies presented in this volume, we put forward a framework that explains the consolidation of authoritarian neoliberalism in Turkey through the mechanisms of executive centralisation, autocratic legalism, cronyism, violence-fuelled rentier accumulation, criminalisation and stigmatisation, and contestations against authoritarian neoliberalism through strikes, protests, demonstrations, network building, litigation, everyday struggles, and armed acts of contention.Book Part The Crowdsourcing Concept as a New Media Application(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2020) Durmus, Sevil BektasIntroduction - In the twenty-first century, which is the age of communication and information, the time and space concepts have changed with new media technologies and changes have occurred in habits and ways of doing business using the Internet. In this respect, crowdsourcing concept comes first among the new applications with which internet users can share content. The crowdsourcing, which may be understood as `mass-based work' or `crowded resource', consists of a combination of `crowd' and `source', and refers to the use of a great number of human societies to do a common work. The crowdsourcing concept, used commonly as of the 2000s for different purposes, is included in the literature as a concept showing the power of crowds. It is a method in which communication and internet technologies are used with efficacy in the advertising and marketing fields. Purpose - The objective of the present study is to determine the pros and cons of the crowdsourcing concept through new media applications in the form of critical evaluations by examining sample case studies that use the crowdsourcing concept, which is becoming widespread in Turkey and in the whole world in recent years. Methodology - In this study, the `Case (Sample Event) Study Analysis', which is one of the qualitative research methods and which is a methodological approach that includes examining how the crowdsourcing system works indepth, will be used. Findings - Crowdsourcing is becoming a worldwide business model and allows anyone with free time and an internet connection to contribute to economic productivity. This study has discussed the importance of crowdsourcing for companies in contextual terms and has made predictions on how to make this concept become a better model in which fields.Book Part Everyday Playlisting Practices(Routledge, 2022) Sesigur, OnurBook Part Historical Transformation of Music Containers(Routledge, 2022) Sesigur, OnurBook Part Is It Possible to Define Globalization in One Definition(Springer, 2018) Kivilcim, FulyaWhen approximately past 50 years of past experience considered; it can be defined as a period where bipolar system that dominates the world collapsed and instead, monopole system established and thus, depending on the development of communication and transportation technologies of capitalism, economic, political and cultural dimensions of the relations are changed and intensified among the societies. This period has led to the differentiation in the ways of perceiving the world and in the lifestyles of the societies. In this context, time-space perceptions of societies and the processes of meaning the world began to develop and differ. Thus, globalization emerged where the contrast between far-near is removed and dimension of cross-border interaction developed and the nation states which are important actors of the past periods left their power to local cities and regions. As it can be seen from this, the past time has been subject to a social transformation. Therefore, the concept of globalization has been formed where the contrast between far-near is removed and dimension of cross-border interaction developed. Definition of the concept of globalization in its simplest form is; convergence of countries and people by ignoring the distance between the distant and nearby places and having economic and social interaction with each other. An important element in the definition of globalization is; decisions taken at the local level and adopted policies has the power to pass other nations and influence them. Especially when the last three decades considered; the mankind history felt the power of globalization and it will continue to be felt more effective in the coming years due to the circumstances of the current period. Within this rapid change and development process; supranational organizations that are competitive in global market conditions have taken their place in the process as global actors with their areas of activity they are dominant, organizational structures, understanding of management, forms of competition and capital structures they have. In this study; access to the definition of globalization concept and its evaluation for the last five decades targeted within the framework of approaches to the concept of globalization by emphasizing rapid and radical change.Book Part The Marketization of Higher Education in Turkey (2002-2011)(Palgrave, 2012) Onal, Nevzat EvrimBook Part Occupational Health and Safety in Turkish Marine Aquaculture(Turkish Marine Research Foundation-TUDAV, 2020) Firat, Kursat; Cabuk, Ahmet; Uyumsal, SelcukBook Part Remediation at the Age of Streaming(Routledge, 2022) Sesigur, OnurBook Part The Role of Voluntary Organizations in Building Trust(TUBA-Turkish Academy of Sciences, 2023) Yanikkaya, Halit; Saglam, GulerVoluntary organizations are crucial in promoting generalized social trust in a society. The aim of this study is thus to investigate the relationship between the generalized social trust and membership in voluntary organizations. We employ the World Values Survey data for 48 countries including Turkiye on trust and organizational membership for the years 2017-2020 (Wave 7). In addition to the overall organizational membership, this study also investigates the nexus between trust and membership in large numbers of voluntary organizations such as "sport or recreational organization, political party, art, music or educational organization, professional association, humanitarian or charitable organization, religious organization, consumer organization, selfhelp group, mutual aid group". Our logistic regression estimates show that all of these membership variables are significantly related with the trust variable for the full sample. Thus, our results provide substantial evidence for the argument that membership in voluntary organizations is an important factor in building trust in a society. Our further estimations also imply that the positive association between organizational membership and trust holds regardless of the being active or inactive member. However, unlike the full sample, our results for Turkiye show that while overall organizational membership fails to raise trust, memberships to some voluntary organizations such as labor union, political party and aid organizations have even negative association with trust in Turkiye.Book Part Sustainable Development and Green Sukuk: The Case of Turkiye(TUBA-Turkish Academy of Sciences, 2023) Yesilyaprak, MehmetIn this study, it has been tried to emphasize the increase in events such as global warming, environmental pollution, Covid-19 pandemic in recent years and the impact of all these important environmental effects on the sustainability of life.
