Cybersecurity Applications in Industry 4.0

Abstract

The Industry 4.0 paradigm has marked a significant turning point through the integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and cyberphysical systems. During this era-characterized by a fundamental transformation of production and operational processes-efficiency and flexibility have increased, and decision-making processes have accelerated. However, this technological advancement has also introduced serious cybersecurity threats. This study explores the historical development and technological foundations of Industry 4.0, with a particular emphasis on the scale of cybersecurity threats and potential solution strategies. It underscores the urgent need for secure digital transformation through strategic investments in cybersecurity, particularly in light of the transition toward the more human-centered paradigm of Industry 5.0. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
