Erkeklerde Beden Memnuniyetsizliğinin Depresif Belirtilerle İlişkisinde Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısının Aracı Rolü

Abstract

Mevcut tez çalışmasında beden memnuniyetsizliği ile depresif belirtiler arasındaki ilişkide sosyal görünüş kaygısının aracı rolü incelenmiştir. Bunun yanında söz konusu değişkenlerin katılımcıların demografik özelliklerine göre farklılık gösterip göstermediği test edilmiştir. Araştırma online anket üzerinden yürütülmüş olup 18-65 yaş arası 157 estetik cerrahi müdahale yaptırmak isteyen erkek katılımcıya ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla, Beden memnuniyeti Ölçeği, Beck Depresyon Ölçeği ve Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı Ölçeği ve Sosyodemografik özelliklerin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışma neticesinde beden memnuniyetsizliği, depresif belirtiler ve sosyal görünüş kaygısı seviyelerinin katılımcıların birtakım sosyodemografik özelliklere göre farklılaştığı görülmektedir. Yürütülen aracılık analizi sonucuna göre, estetik cerrahi müdahale geçirmek isteyen erkeklerde beden memnuniyetsizliğinin depresif belirtiler ile ilişkisinde sosyal görünüş kaygısının tam aracılık ettiği bulunmuştur. Araştırmanın sonuçları estetik cerrahi müdahale isteyen erkeklerde psikolojik değerlendirmenin ve alınacak psikolojik desteğin önemine işaret etmektedir.

This thesis aimed to investigate the mediating role of social appearance anxiety in the association between body dissatisfaction and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, the study explored whether these variables varied based on the demographic characteristics of the participants. The research was carried out through an online questionnaire and data were collected from 157 male participants between the ages of 18-65 who wanted to undergo plastic surgery. Body satisfaction Scale, Beck Depression Scale, Social Physique Anxiety Scale and Personal Information Form were used to evaluate sociodemographic characteristics in order to collect data in the study. As a result of the study, it is seen that the levels of body dissatisfaction, depressive symptoms and social appearance anxiety differ according to some sociodemographic characteristics of the participants. According to the results of the mediation analysis, it was found that social appearance anxiety was fully mediated in the relationship between body dissatisfaction and depressive symptoms in men who wanted to undergo plastic surgery. The results of the study point to the importance of psychological evaluation and psychological support for men who want plastic surgery.
