Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Hemşirelik İmajı Algılarının Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Aim: To determine nursing students’ perceptions of image towards the profession. Material and Method: Descriptive type study was carried out in the nursing department of a public university health school (n=691) at 25-29 May 2017. “Student Identification Form” and “Image for Nursing Profession” scale was used in collecting the data. Results: The average age of the students participating in the study was 22,49±1.53, 64,7% were girls and 36% were at 3rd grade. 62,1% of the students stated that they preferred the nursing profession voluntarily, 59,3% of them liked the profession and 61,4% did not intend to change their department. It was determined that the students’ mean score of image scale for nursing profession was 142,97 ± 0,59. A statistically significant difference was found between the willingness and preference of the nursing profession and the subscale of the scale and the mean total score of the scale (p <0,05). Conclusion: It was determined that students’ perception of image towards nursing profession is at a medium level, and those who prefer the profession willingly and those who love the profession have high perception of nursing image. In order to improve students’ perception of nursing image, programs should be organized to increase their professional equipment and improve their professional behavior.

Amaç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin mesleğe yönelik imaj algılarını belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki çalışma 25-29 Mayıs 2017 tarihinde bir devlet üniversitesinin sağlık yüksekokulu hemşirelik bölümü öğrencilerinde (n=691) yapıldı. Verilerin toplanmasında “Öğrenci Tanıtım Formu” ve “Hemşirelik Mesleğine Yönelik İmaj” ölçeği kullanıldı. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 22,49±1,53, %64,7’si kız ve %36’sı 3 sınıftır. Öğrencilerin %62,1’i hemşirelik mesleğini isteyerek tercih ettiğini, %59,3’ü mesleği sevdiğini ve %61,4’ü bölüm değiştirmeyi düşünmediğini belirtti. Öğrencilerin hemşirelik mesleğine yönelik imaj ölçeği puan ortalamasının 142,97±0,59 olduğu saptandı. Hemşirelik mesleğini isteyerek tercih etme ve mesleği sevme durumu ile ölçeğin alt boyut puanları ve ölçek toplam puan ortalaması arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptandı (p<0,05). Sonuç: Öğrencilerin hemşirelik mesleğine yönelik imaj algısının orta düzeyde olduğu, mesleği isteyerek tercih edenlerin ve mesleği sevenlerin hemşirelik imajı algısının yüksek olduğu saptandı. Öğrencilerin hemşirelik imajı algısını geliştirebilmek için mesleki donanımlarını artırmaya ve profesyonel davranışlarını geliştirmeye yönelik programlar düzenlenmelidir.
